“Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it.”
-- Mark Twain
I am at work and I wore a blazer today because, well, um, WHY NOT? I usually just wear dress tops because it is business casual but someone remarked that I was looking like a professor. So I went along with it and said, "Well, actually I am a professor!" Oh, of what? "Well, I am moonlighting. I'm actually a physics professor!" The joke continued but in reality I am regretful and wish I had made better choices. I am not super strong in math, well, at all. I wish I had liked it more because it would be very fun and rewarding to actually do something like that with my life. Oh well, there's always my next life!

fvckin sweet poem mannn
[A]s children tremble and fear everything
in the blind darkness, so we in the light
sometimes fear what is no more to be
feared than the things children in the dark
hold in terror. . .

banner of heaven
The zealot may be outwardly motivated by the antcipation of a great reward at the other end -- wealth, fame,
eternal salvation – but the real recompense is probably the obsession itself. This is no less true for the religious fanatic then for the fanatical pianist or the fanatical mountain climber. As a result of his or her infatuation, existence overflows with purpose. Ambiguity vanishes from the fanatics worldview; a narcissistic sense of self-assurance displaces all doubt. A delicious rage quickens his pulse, fueled by the sins and shortcomings of lesser mortals, who are soiling the world wherever he looks. His perspective narrows until the last remnants of proportion are shed from his life. Through immoderation, he experiences something akin to rapture. Although the far territory of the extreme can exert an intoxicating pull on susceptible individuals of all bents, extremism seems to be especially prevalent among those inclined by temperament or upbringing toward religious pursuits. -Jon Krakauer

TGIVE
Thanksgiving has come and gone. I don't really care. I do miss one thing about the holiday and perhaps it's so so so self-righteous-sounding but whatever...I miss volunteering at the Family to Family food drive. That was a lot of "fun." Well, for me it was. Some people think volunteering is useless because you could use that time to make money but as a teenager it put me into a situation where I got to meet a lot of people who were worse off than I and it gave me tremendous perspective. I got to bring some pies home, too. And they offered a Thanksgiving lunch to all the volunteers so having a Thanksgiving dinner with my friends was very exciting! You got to meet Sister Adrienne too so that was always fun. She is a nun and very nice at that too. She is very popular in Scranton for helping people. Anyway, like I said I am really coming off like a goody-two-shoes, but I need to be clear...what I miss is the mood that day of volunteering brought me. It was the start of the holidays and that meant warmth and cheerfulness, quite literally. This year I was downtown returning some books to the library and we got caught in the traffic of the food drive and I saw all the teenagers bringing out the brown paper bags and loading them into the peoples' cars. I definitely started to reminisce a little bit. It was also a time when I liked myself a lot more and had more hope for myself. I had a very pleasant Thanksgiving and mostly grateful just to spend it with Steve.
