hashtagvalidation

"In 1973, Laura Mulvey came out with her paper, Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema. In it she explores psychoanalysis as a way to look at the narrative and characters of the modern cinema. In basic terms, this broke down to males as the drivers of plot and action and women left as the desired subject. As she puts it, “Woman as Image, Man as Bearer of Look.” (Mulvey, 4.) Now I do understand that we aren’t talking about film. However, I believe that her reading of psychoanalysis can be applied to the ways that we search for validation in Instagram. After all, are we not creating a visual plot for others to follow? It is structured on a narrative timeline."

http://instagram-validation.blogspot.com/   Do read the entire Blog. It's succinct, cohesive, true, and makes me want to finish that Cultural Studies/Soc. major I started four years ago because the world (esp. the TWO DIMENSIONAL world of 00's) today is rife with material to deconstruct and delineate! I was only working on that degree four years ago, too! It's unbelievable how much has changed and how much more garbage has been heaped onto le pile. But alas, Mulvey has highlighted women's positions as far back as the 70s so it should be no surprise. I hope when I have a daughter she has absolutely no need to flash her face on any type of social network to receive some sort of sense of worth or esteem.

Enough for mehhh

“Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it.”

-- Mark Twain

I am at work and I wore a blazer today because, well, um, WHY NOT? I usually just wear dress tops because it is business casual but someone remarked that I was looking like a professor. So I went along with it and said, "Well, actually I am a professor!" Oh, of what? "Well, I am moonlighting. I'm actually a physics professor!" The joke continued but in reality I am regretful and wish I had made better choices. I am not super strong in math, well, at all. I wish I had liked it more because it would be very fun and rewarding to actually do something like that with my life. Oh well, there's always my next life!

fvckin sweet poem mannn

[A]s children tremble and fear everything
in the blind darkness, so we in the light
sometimes fear what is no more to be
feared than the things children in the dark
hold in terror. . .
